There’s been another heart-wrenching chapter in the life of Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch is mourning the sudden and unexpected loss of her adored dorgi puppy, Fergus. This furry companion was gifted to her just three months ago by her son, Prince Andrew, as a way to bring a little joy back into her life. At the time, her beloved husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, was hospitalized in February 2021, and Andrew thought a new puppy might help lift her spirits. Tragically, Prince Philip passed away on April 9, and now Fergus is also gone, leaving a void in the queen's world.
A Source Speaks Out on the Queen’s Grief
According to an insider speaking with Us Weekly on Wednesday, May 19, the situation is nothing short of devastating. “The Queen is absolutely crushed by Fergus' passing,” the source revealed. Fergus, a delightful mix between a corgi and a dachshund, was one of two puppies the royal family gifted her. The other, a corgi named Muick, remains by her side. The queen had come to cherish Fergus, who brought her comfort and companionship during an incredibly difficult time in her life.

A Lifetime of Furry Companionship
Throughout her nearly 70 years on the throne, the queen has been surrounded by her beloved corgis and dorgis. These furry companions have been a constant source of joy and comfort in her life. However, as she has aged, the number of her four-legged friends has dwindled. In December 2020, her dorgi named Vulcan passed away, leaving her with just one pet, another dorgi named Candy. The queen had even considered not getting any new dogs, fearing she was getting too old to care for them. But Prince Andrew had other plans.

Prince Andrew’s Thoughtful Gift
In February 2021, The Sun reported that Prince Andrew surprised his mother with two new puppies, hoping to bring some light back into her life after Prince Philip’s hospitalization. Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, was admitted to the hospital on February 16 due to feeling unwell. He was released one month later, on March 16, after undergoing heart surgery. Tragically, Elizabeth's beloved husband passed away peacefully at home in Windsor Castle just over three weeks later.
The Comfort of Puppies Amidst Grief
The arrival of the puppies had brought the queen immense comfort during her husband’s health crisis and the days following his death. She was frequently seen walking her cherished pooches on the grounds of Windsor Castle, a small but meaningful way to keep moving forward. Now, with the loss of Fergus, she finds herself leaning on just Muick and Candy for companionship on her daily strolls. The exact cause of Fergus' untimely death at such a young age remains unclear.
