Picture this: A warm, sunny afternoon in California. George Hamilton and Alana Stewart are taking a leisurely stroll through the hilly streets of their Beverly Hills neighborhood. As they climb a particularly steep incline, George, with a playful huff, jokes, "Maybe I could have done this back when I first married you." Alana, who's busy capturing their adventure on camera, bursts into laughter. "Whew. Shall we set up camp here?" George quips, stopping by the side of the road for a breather. Their chemistry is undeniable, their bond unshakable, and their story, well, it's one for the ages.

Divorced, But Closer Than Ever

Here's the twist: George and Alana have been divorced for a whopping 47 years. Yet, they remain an inseparable duo, often referred to as the "cutest couple" by friends and family. Despite their legal separation, these two have maintained a friendship that rivals many long-term marriages. They even have one adult son together, and their connection has only grown stronger over the years. In fact, they've occasionally joked about remarrying, but both agree they're perfectly content with how things are now. "In hindsight, our relationship has been just as fulfilling," George, now 83, reflects with a smile.

The Secret to Their Success

Alana, 77, admits that their unique arrangement works wonders for them. "Here's the secret to our happiness," she confides, "we don't live together. That gives us our space, our independence, and keeps the relationship fresh." But it's not just about physical distance. Alana emphasizes the importance of laughter in their lives. "He's always made me laugh, and I think I do the same for him. And honestly, laughter is the most important thing in any relationship," she says with a twinkle in her eye.

Theirs wasn't exactly a love-at-first-sight story. The couple first met in Acapulco in 1968, where George was one of MGM's rising heartthrobs and Alana was a stunning model. At first glance, they didn't exactly hit it off. "We instantly disliked each other," George recalls with a chuckle. "I thought she was a snooty model, and she thought I was a crazy playboy." But fate had other plans. One day, George reached over and playfully pinched Alana. She responded by slapping him. Surprisingly, that moment sparked something between them, and they started dating shortly after.

Their whirlwind romance culminated in a Las Vegas wedding in 1972, with none other than Elvis Presley's manager, Col. Tom Parker, as best man and Alana's dog as a witness. However, their marriage lasted only three years. Despite the split, George maintained that Alana was his "best friend." In the divorce settlement, Alana, a Texas-born beauty, gained custody of their 4-year-old son, alimony, and one of their three Rolls-Royces. Yet, even through the challenges of divorce, their affection for each other never waned. "You start with the divorce, and then you realize there's something missing. And then you realize it's your ex-wife," George admits candidly.

    Rediscovering Friendship After Divorce

Alana believes that taking a step back from the relationship was crucial. "When you divorce, the most important thing is to stay friends," she says thoughtfully. "You need to remember what you loved about the person and focus on the positives rather than the negatives. Moving forward, nurturing that friendship is key." Their story is a testament to the power of friendship, love, and genuine care for one another. "At the end of the day, the most important things in life are friendship, love, and caring about others," Alana concludes.

Today, their relationship is nothing short of extraordinary. "George and Alana are a couple. They're best friends, they're in love, they're divorced, and they are partners for life," a close friend shares. "In many ways, they are the most romantic couple we know." Their story proves that love and friendship can thrive beyond the boundaries of marriage.

A Blended Family United by Love

In addition to their son, Ashley, 48, Alana has two other children, Kimberly, 43, and Sean, 42, from her marriage to rocker Rod Stewart. Both of her younger children consider George a stepdad. Meanwhile, George has a son, George Jr., 23, from another relationship. "The truth is, after all these years, we're like one big family," Alana says with pride.

These days, George and Alana talk on the phone almost every day, visit each other's homes regularly, and enjoy dinners together frequently—though Alana does most of the driving now. "I'm always late," George admits sheepishly. Alana adds that their bond is unbreakable. "I've got his back, and I know he's got mine," she says with unwavering certainty.
