Let’s talk about Sally Field, a woman who’s been through it all. You might remember her iconic 1985 Oscar speech where she exclaimed, “You like me! Right now, you like me!” Now, at 76, Sally has found something even more rewarding—self-acceptance. “When you’re at peace with yourself, when you truly own who you are, you become the best kind of company for yourself,” she says. And that’s exactly what she’s achieved, winning the prestigious SAG Life Achievement Award and learning how to embrace joy in both her professional and personal lives.
From Self-Doubt to Self-Appreciation
Sally’s journey hasn’t been easy. Despite her incredible success—three Emmys for her work in Sybil, ER, and Brothers & Sisters, plus two Academy Awards for Norma Rae and Places in the Heart—she’s been open about her struggles with self-doubt. “We’re all coming of age, no matter how old we are,” she once shared with Closer magazine. “There are moments when you feel like you don’t belong, like you’re on the outside looking in. But that’s part of the journey, and it’s something we all experience.”
A Lifelong Motto: It’s Never Too Late
One of Sally’s favorite sayings is, “It’s never too late to be what you might have been.” For her, that means becoming a genuinely happy person. “For years, I felt like I had to prove myself,” she admits. “But now, I don’t need to impress anyone. I’m comfortable in my own skin, and I recognize my worth. All my dreams have come true, and I’m grateful for every moment.”

She still loves working, but these days, she gets to choose her projects. “Sally’s not ready to retire, but there’s nothing better than curling up in her favorite chair with a good book,” says a close friend. “She’s found a balance that works for her, and it’s beautiful to see.”
A Life Filled with Love and Family
Sally cherishes her off-screen life more than anything. “The three things I’m most proud of in my life are my sons,” she says, speaking fondly of Peter Craig, 53, Eli Craig, 50, and Sam Greisman, 35. “She’s always gushing about them,” adds her friend, who notes that Sally also dotes on her five grandchildren, who range in age from 8 to 24. “They’re the light of her life.”
Though Sally had a famous romance with Burt Reynolds in the ’70s and has been twice divorced, she’s perfectly content with her life as it is. “I’m really happy with who I am,” she quips. “I don’t need a partner to feel fulfilled. I don’t want to be picking up anyone’s underwear in the morning!”
That said, she’s not ruling out love entirely. “If the right person came along, she wouldn’t turn them away,” her friend shares. “Her kids, especially Sam, are always trying to set her up, but she’s taking it all in stride. At the end of the day, as long as her family is healthy and happy, she’s content.”
Always Growing, Always Learning
Sally knows that life is a journey, and she’s always open to learning more. “I’ve learned so much over the years, but I know there’s still so much I don’t know,” she says. “I’m excited to keep discovering, to keep growing, and to keep welcoming more joy into my life. I don’t even know what the questions are yet, but I’m ready to find out.”
