Let me tell you a story about how one chance meeting at a gas station in 2012 changed Clint Harp’s life forever. Clint was just another guy chasing his dreams when he bumped into Chip Gaines. Fast forward a few years, and Clint found himself on HGTV's hit show Fixer Upper, where he became a household name. But here’s the question everyone’s been asking: After the show wrapped up, are Clint and the Gaines family still as close as ever? Keep reading to find out!

Clint Harp’s Unlikely Start in Waco, Texas

Before Clint became the beloved carpenter we all know, he was working in medical sales, raking in the dough. But here’s the thing—his heart wasn’t in it. Clint’s true passion lay in woodworking, and he knew deep down that he needed to follow his dreams. So, in 2011, he and his wife, Kelly Harp, packed up their bags and moved to Waco, Texas, ready to start a new chapter. It wasn’t easy, but Clint was determined to make it work.

Now, Clint tried reaching out to Chip Gaines, hoping to land a job at Magnolia Homes. But guess what? His calls went unanswered. Frustrating, right? But then, fate stepped in. One day, while filling up his car at a gas station, Clint noticed a guy driving a Magnolia Homes truck. On a whim, he approached the man, only to discover it was Chip himself! Chip invited Clint to hang out, and the rest, as they say, is history. Just a few months later, they filmed the pilot for Fixer Upper, and Clint’s life changed forever.

Is Clint Still Buddies with Chip and Joanna Gaines?

Building an empire like the Gaines family isn’t easy—it takes a lot of hard work, determination, and a little bit of luck. Chip and Joanna worked tirelessly to make their dreams a reality, and they had an amazing team by their side, including Clint, who brought his woodworking magic to Fixer Upper. From 2013 to 2018, the show was a runaway hit, bringing creativity, innovation, and a sense of community to HGTV viewers across the country. But when Chip and Joanna announced they were ending their run on HGTV, fans were left scratching their heads. What happened next?

The Gaines family decided to take over the DIY Network and relaunch it as Magnolia Network. Clint was optimistic about the possibilities this new venture might bring. In a 2019 interview with Country Living, Clint reflected on his time at HGTV and expressed his excitement about future projects. “Kelly and I truly loved working with HGTV and DIY Channel,” Clint said. “Obviously, working with Chip and Jo is always on the table for me, as I think we have done pretty well together!”

Chip and Joanna brought back Fixer Upper on the new network, reimagining it as Fixer Upper: Welcome Home. But here’s the twist—they didn’t bring Clint back as the carpenter. Instead, they gave him his own show, Restoration Road, which premiered in 2021. Clint is incredibly grateful to the Gaines family for helping him land this new opportunity and insists that their friendship remains strong. “For me, to be a part of this journey with them all the way back to those days is so super special,” Clint said in a 2021 interview with The List. “We’re just people who were all trying to chase our dreams, and the next thing you know, it turned into what it is today.”
