Inside Dave And Jenny Marrs' Personal Home Renovation Adventure

HGTV's Dave and Jenny Marrs on Renovating Their Farmhouse | Closer Weekly

Hey there, HGTV fans! If you’ve been glued to Fixer to Fabulous over the years, you’re probably familiar with the dynamic duo of Dave and Jenny Marrs. They’ve transformed countless homes into dream spaces, but this time, they’ve taken on a project closer to home—literally. The couple is currently renovating their own 1903 farmhouse in Arkansas, and let me tell you, it’s quite the journey. “It’s a hot mess,” Dave hilariously admits to Closer with a chuckle.

Jenny echoes the sentiment, describing the process as nothing short of chaotic. “We’re living in this house while we renovate, which is a first for us,” she says. “We’ve done renovations and moved plenty of times, but never have we lived in the middle of a construction site. It’s been a challenge, and we’re definitely feeling the strain. But hey, it’s all part of the adventure!”

Life in the Construction Zone

Currently residing on the stunning property with their five children—Nathan, Ben, Sylvie, Charlotte, and Luke—the Marrs family is navigating the complexities of living amidst a renovation. While it’s certainly not easy, they’ve managed to find ways to adapt. “It’s going surprisingly well,” Jenny shares. “We’re constantly shuffling everyone around. We’ll finish one area, move back, and then start another space. It’s like a never-ending puzzle, but we’re making it work. It’ll be a few more months of this shuffle, but we’re committed to seeing it through.”

But the Marrs’ renovation isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s also about sustainability. Dave and Jenny, along with their kids, are dedicated to practicing eco-friendly living. They’re starring in the Sustainability Series, a six-part program sponsored by Daikin, aimed at encouraging HGTV viewers to embrace sustainable practices. “We feel like this is something we can no longer ignore or delay,” Dave passionately explains. “We need to address sustainability now, and we’re using our home renovation as a platform to show how it can be done.”

The couple is proving that you don’t have to tear down and rebuild to create a beautiful, functional space. “We’re not building something new,” Dave elaborates. “We’re renovating our 1903 farmhouse, which has been with us for almost a decade. When we first moved in, our twin boys were just four years old. Now they’re 13 and still sharing the same room. So, we’re reconfiguring the house to better suit our growing family without adding unnecessary square footage.”

    Teaching the Next Generation

This renovation isn’t just about making their home more sustainable; it’s also about instilling important values in their children. “Every day on our show, we focus on making spaces work for the families who live in them without adding a bunch of new stuff,” Dave continues. “And that’s exactly what we’re doing here. It all ties back to what we want to teach our kids: to approach problems creatively and think outside the box.”

When it comes to teaching their kids about sustainable living, the Marrs family takes a practical approach. “For us, it’s all about incorporating sustainability into everyday life,” Jenny explains. “Simple actions like turning off lights when leaving a room, being mindful of water usage, and closing curtains during the day to conserve cool air make a big difference. Our kids have grown up with these habits, and they’ve become second nature to them.”

Exciting Updates from Fixer to Fabulous

On top of their personal renovation project, Dave and Jenny are gearing up for the premiere of the new season of Fixer to Fabulous. “We’ve got 16 incredible projects lined up for the next season,” Jenny reveals. “We’ve been working on them all year, and we’re still wrapping up a few. We have two more reveals next week and seven more projects to go. It’s been an amazing experience, and we can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve been up to!”
