Savannah Guthrie has been taking some much-needed time off, and with Hoda Kotb also stepping away for a bit, the show had to make some temporary casting changes. On March 18, a few familiar faces from Weekend Today stepped in to keep things running smoothly.
Familiar Faces Step In
Weekend Today correspondent Laura Jarrett joined Craig Melvin at the news desk to kick off the show. And guess what? It wasn’t just Laura filling in—Peter Alexander also joined the duo later on to help out. With both Savannah, who’s 52, and Hoda taking a break, the team had to get creative to keep the show rolling. Now, it’s not every day you see Laura, who’s 40, and Peter, who’s 47, on the weekday show, but they’ve been stepping in more often as the regular weekday hosts take time off to focus on their other projects.
Craig Melvin Welcomes the New Team
Craig, 44, welcomed the viewers at the top of the hour with a warm message: “Thanks for starting off the week with us! We’ve got Laura Jarrett with us while Savannah and Hoda are taking time off with their families!” It was a friendly reminder that even when the regulars are away, the show still goes on with a little help from friends.

And it wasn’t just Laura and Peter lending a hand. Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer, and Carson Daly were also on deck to keep the morning show lively and informative. This kind of teamwork really shows the depth and flexibility of the Today team.
Savannah Takes a Well-Deserved Break
Savannah is currently on hiatus from Today to celebrate her 10th wedding anniversary with her husband, Mike Feldman. Not only is she taking time to reconnect with her family, but she’s also taking a little social media break after her weekend getaway. It’s always nice to see someone prioritize family and personal time, right?
On March 15, Savannah shared a sweet throwback post on her socials, saying, “This was us—10 years ago today! And this is us now. I love you now and forever @feldmike.” How heartwarming is that? It’s moments like these that remind us why we love following Savannah’s journey.
And guess what? Savannah didn’t stay off social media for long. On March 18, she returned to share some exciting news about her new book, Mostly What God Does. She posted a picture of her book spotted in an airport bookstore, captioning it, “A friend sent me this from the airport bookstore! The real live book in the wild!!! I have yet to see it for myself in a bookstore so this is exciting for me.” It’s always thrilling to see an author’s work out in the world, isn’t it?
As for when Savannah will be back, that hasn’t been confirmed just yet. But don’t worry, she’s been busy promoting her new book, Mostly What God Does, which released on February 20. She’s even been making appearances on her book tour to support the faith-based project. Savannah’s passion for the book is evident, as she said, “I’m really passionate about this, and I hope it will be full of love and happiness for everyone.”
Hoda Kotb’s Book Release
And let’s not forget about Hoda Kotb! She recently released her latest book, Hope Is a Rainbow, inspired by her youngest daughter, Hope. Hoda, who is also a mom to daughter Haley, shared her thoughts on the book after its March 5 release. “Hope delights in rainbows and whenever I say, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ ‘A rainbow!’ It’s the beautiful colors, it appears before you, it’s magical, and that is the image that personifies her,” Hoda told Today.com.
