Hey there, friends! So, you know how sometimes life throws you these unexpected, totally magical moments? Well, Sara Haines had one of those this past weekend when she crossed paths with Whoopi Goldberg outside of their usual The View vibe. They bumped into each other in New Jersey, and Sara spilled all the tea about it on the "Behind the Table" podcast.
Now, Sara—yes, the same 46-year-old dynamo we all know and love—shared that she and Whoopi were at the same venue but had different parties to attend. And guess what? It all went down during an episode of the podcast on March 18. Can you believe that? Two powerhouse women just chilling in the same space, totally unplanned!
From Work Buddies to Real-Life Friends: Sara and Whoopi’s Chance Encounter
Sara recounted her plans to bring her kids to this particular venue for a couple of hours. She said, “I’m going to bring the kids there for a couple of hours to this space.” But when she got there, guess who she spotted? None other than Karen Dupiche, the makeup artist from The View. Now, here's the kicker: Karen also lives in Jersey. And for a moment, Sara didn’t even connect the dots that Whoopi would be there too.

And then, bam! Whoopi walks around the corner, and Sara couldn’t contain her excitement. “Whoopi walks around the corner. I lit up,” she told listeners. Whoopi was there with a group of friends and, being the gracious host she is, invited Sara to her party room. Sara, of course, brought along her adorable trio: Alec, Sandra, and Caleb.
The Chaos of Parenthood: Caleb’s Meltdown
Of course, life with kids isn’t always smooth sailing. Sara admitted that they couldn’t stay long because they had to pick up Alec. And, as if on cue, Caleb decided it was time for a full-blown meltdown. Sara recounted, “Caleb was losing his mind. I always have to remind myself that he’s still 4. He hit me in the face, and I’m like, ‘Stop hitting me,’ while I’m trying to squeeze him.”
Sara, being the candid mom that she is, confessed that Caleb’s meltdown taught them a valuable lesson. “We did the speech when we went in, ‘There’s gonna be a point we leave and you’re going to leave or we’re never doing this again.’ Moral of that story is we’re never doing that again,” she hilariously admitted.
Whoopi’s Grace and Authenticity
But despite the chaos, Sara had a blast reconnecting with Whoopi. “Her face lit up,” she recalled. “We like jumped on each other and then we laughed.” Sara was amazed by how Whoopi handles her celebrity status. “It was really cool. I kept wondering before I went, I had said, ‘How does Whoopi walk around this place?’ She handles it like a normie. She just walks around herself.”
When fans approached her for photos, Whoopi had a polite but firm response. “She had a pretty standard answer and I think that tone let people know you know I’m in my own space very kindly,” Sara explained. “She just blended in, and she also has such an inner child we talk about it with Disney a lot. It speaks to her soul. She looked like a little kid. I did not see her running around with kids. She was not great-grandma Whoopi at that moment.”

Sara was left in awe by Whoopi’s effortless ability to navigate her celebrity status with grace. “She just blended in, and she also has such an inner child we talk about it with Disney a lot. It speaks to her soul. She looked like a little kid. I did not see her running around with kids. She was not great-grandma Whoopi at that moment.”
