Giuliana Rancic Reflects On Life, Love, And Lessons Learned

Giuliana Rancic Celebrates Being Cancer-Free For 5 Years In A Touching

Hey there, friends. Last December, Giuliana Rancic celebrated not just one but two major milestones: the anniversary of her engagement to her husband Bill, 52, and her 12th year being cancer-free. That’s right, 12 years. Can you imagine? The talk show host made headlines back in October 2011 when she announced she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer at the tender age of 36. Just two months later, she underwent a double mastectomy. Now, Giuliana is partnering with Avocados From Mexico to support breast cancer research, and she recently sat down with Closer’s Lindsay Hoffman to talk about her journey, her relationship with Bill, and even the celebrity moment that left her starstruck.

Life After Cancer: Giuliana’s Journey

It’s hard to believe it’s been 12 years since Giuliana faced one of the toughest battles of her life. "It was tough," the now-49-year-old admits. "I didn’t realize how strong I was until I had to be. I had to pull through." But here’s the thing about Giuliana: she didn’t just survive; she thrived. Now, as she reflects on her journey, she shares how it feels to be a cancer survivor all these years later. "In that first year, it’s all you and your family think about," she says. "It’s amazing to be 12 years out."

Staying Proactive About Health

Giuliana isn’t one to sit back and let life happen to her. She’s proactive about her health, making sure to stay on top of her appointments and taking control of what she can. "Once I reached the five-year milestone, every year got a little easier," she explains. "I’m very proactive about my health. I stay on top of my appointments, and I do what’s in my control." And she’s not just talking about mammograms. Giuliana emphasizes the importance of self-exams, especially for younger women. "I can’t tell you how many young women have come up to me over the years and said, ‘I had breast cancer, and I found it myself, not through a mammogram.’" It’s a powerful reminder that early detection can make all the difference.

When Giuliana first heard the words "breast cancer," it was the shock of a lifetime. "I had no family history of breast cancer," she recalls. "I would wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat and start crying. I was so scared." But she wasn’t alone. Her husband, Bill, was by her side every step of the way, supporting her through the toughest nights. "What was my lowest moment?" she asks. "Being on the floor, just sobbing. But I did learn that I’m stronger than I thought I was." And isn’t that the truth? Giuliana’s resilience is nothing short of inspiring.

    Living a Healthier Life

Giuliana’s journey through cancer didn’t just change her physically; it changed her mindset. "I started caring about the ingredients I was putting on my skin," she explains. "Our skin is our largest organ, after all." And that care extended to what she was putting into her body. "It wasn’t a drastic change of diet, because I still indulge," she laughs. "But I started seeking out superfoods. Now I eat like five avocados a week. My favorite is sliced avocado on a toasted bagel with olive oil and salt and pepper. It’s simple, but it’s delicious." Who can argue with that?

Marriage and Family: The Rancic Love Story

Giuliana and Bill have been married for 16 years, and they’re still going strong. "We’re amazing," Giuliana says with a smile. "It’s been 16 years, but it’s flown by." So what’s the secret to their successful marriage? "Marriage is interesting because there are highs and lows," she admits. "We’re best friends — if I wasn’t married to him, he would still be my best friend. We get each other like no one else. We have a lot of common interests. We love pickleball, so we play doubles. We also have a lot of businesses together, and we’re both very involved. It really works." Sounds like they’ve got the recipe for a happy marriage down to a science.

    Life with Duke

And let’s not forget about their son, Duke, who’s 11 years old and full of personality. "He’s great," Giuliana gushes. "He golfs, he plays pickleball with Bill and me, and he’s been learning the guitar and enjoying that. And he’s really funny. It’s fun to watch his personality develop. Life is good right now!" It’s clear that Giuliana and Bill are not just partners in life but also in parenting, and they’re doing a fantastic job raising their little guy.
