Paris, Love, and Family: Savannah Guthrie’s Heartwarming Surprise

Listen, you know how life sometimes gives you these moments that remind you of the importance of family and connection? Well, Savannah Guthrie, the beloved Today anchor, just pulled off one of the most heartwarming surprises for her kids, Vale and Charley, at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It’s like she took a page out of a fairy tale and brought it to life right in the City of Love.

For the past week, Savannah has been covering the Olympics in Paris, but let’s be honest, being away from your kids is never easy. Missing them? That’s a feeling every parent knows all too well. So, Savannah decided to bring her family to Paris, giving them the chance to experience the magic of the Olympics together before the events wrap up on August 11. It’s not just about work; it’s about creating unforgettable memories with the people who matter most.

The Surprise of a Lifetime: Vale and Charley Head to Paris

On Sunday, August 4, Savannah, 52, couldn’t contain her excitement as she posted a video on Instagram asking her kids if they wanted to join her in Paris. Can you imagine their reaction? Pure joy, pure excitement, pure happiness. The kids screamed with joy at the thought of flying to France to see their mom. And the best part? The video wasn’t the end of it. Savannah followed up with photos of her reuniting with her kids, capturing the pure joy and excitement of their reunion in the heart of Paris.

  • And guess what? Savannah’s husband, Mike Feldman, wasn’t about to miss out on this adventure. He joined Vale and Charley on their trip to Paris, and together, they’ve been making memories that will last a lifetime. From snapping family photos in front of the iconic Eiffel Tower to attending some of the sporting events together, it’s been a whirlwind of fun and family bonding. In another Instagram post, Hoda Kotb even joined Savannah and her family in the stands at another event, making it a true team effort.

The Hard Truth of Being Apart

Before flying her family out to Paris, Savannah opened up about the challenges of being away from her kids. You know that feeling when you’re having the time of your life, but all you can think about is the people you left behind? That’s exactly how Savannah felt. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on July 31, she shared her thoughts on the bittersweet experience of covering the Olympics.

“It’s so much fun here in Paris. The city is breathtaking, and the energy is electric. But, you know, you can’t help but wish your kids were here with you. You wish your spouse was here,” Savannah said. “But honestly, we’re here to work, and we’re doing our best. As the kids get a little older and gain more independence, we’d love to bring them along to future events like this. Until then, we miss them dearly.”

Hoda Kotb Shares Her Experience of Missing Her Daughters

Hoda Kotb, Savannah’s co-host, also opened up about the challenges of being away from her daughters, Haley and Hope, while on assignment. Sometimes, as parents, we worry that our absence might affect our kids, but Hoda shared a comforting perspective. “You know what? It’s teaching us that kids are resilient. They’re fine when we’re away for a few days. They’re perfectly fine,” she said. “We’ve been FaceTiming our kids and staying connected. And you know what? Sometimes we feel like we have to be there all the time, but then we realize they’re growing, they’re thriving, and they’re excited. We can’t wait to get home and see them.”

Celebrating Team USA: A Privilege and a Joy

Savannah and Hoda also shared what it’s been like meeting some of the incredible members of Team USA and interviewing them on Today. Imagine being able to wrap your arms around these athletes and share a message of national pride. That’s exactly what Savannah and her team have been doing. “They come, and it’s such an incredible experience. We get to share a message with them: ‘Your country is so proud of you,’” Savannah told People on August 2. “It’s such a privilege to be there in those moments when their lives are changing, when their dreams are coming true, or when everything they’ve worked so hard for pays off. We get to witness it all.”

Al Roker also chimed in, expressing his excitement about spending time with his Today colleagues in Paris. “You know, it’s not just about the work. We really do enjoy each other’s company,” he said. “And here in Paris, we get to hang out together. It’s like summer camp. We go to events together, work together, eat meals together, and the best part? The company’s paying for it.”
