Over the weekend, Lucille Ball’s children, Desi Arnaz Jr. and Lucie Arnaz, made a rare public appearance, sharing a heartwarming moment with their family. In a series of photos posted on Instagram on August 3, Lucie, now 73, revealed the joyous occasion where she and her brother, along with their loved ones, enjoyed dinner at Wally’s in Las Vegas.
Lucie’s caption added a personal touch, noting, “Desi is alive and well, my friends—just likes to stay a bit ‘undercover.’” This playful nod to her brother's reclusive nature highlighted the bond between the siblings. The photos showcased Desi Jr., 71, sporting a long beard and baseball cap, while Lucie leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder and wrapping her arms around him in a loving embrace.
A Special Weekend in Las Vegas
Lucie went on to explain the reason for their visit, writing, “We are here for the weekend as Larry is being tributed during the 35th Anniversary of Star Trek V celebration at The Treksperts Convention here.” Larry, her husband Laurence Luckinbill, played Spock’s brother, Sybok, in that iconic film. With his newly released autobiography, he became a special guest at the event. Fans could look forward to photo opportunities, book signings, and panel discussions featuring Larry, making it a memorable weekend for all involved.

Desi Jr.'s Quiet Life
Desi Jr. has largely stayed out of the public eye in recent years, but this rare appearance reminded fans of his presence and charm. Lucille Ball welcomed her daughter Lucie and son Desi Jr. with Desi Arnaz in 1951 and 1953, respectively. Though their parents divorced in 1960, the legendary duo behind I Love Lucy remained devoted to each other until the end. Actress Carole Cook shared with Closer in December 2021, “They loved each other until the day they both died. I know that in my heart.”
Cook went on to describe their relationship, saying, “He was the great love of her life, and she was for him, too.” She added, “They never said bad words about each other. It was a fantastic romance that got even more passionate and friendlier after they were not married to each other anymore.”
Carrying the Torch: The Next Generation in Show Business
Just like their parents, Lucie and Desi Jr. followed the path of entertainment. Lucie has earned more than two dozen acting credits, starring in popular shows like Will & Grace, Sons and Daughters, and The Pack, while also making a name for herself in theater. Meanwhile, Desi Jr. boasts over 30 acting credits, with roles in Matlock, Automan, The Love Boat, and Police Story. Their parents’ lives were depicted in the 2021 biographical drama Being the Ricardos, starring Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem as Lucille and Desi. Both Lucie and Desi Jr. served as executive producers of the film.
Lucie reflected on her parents’ legacy during a January 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “It was a very unique thing. It’s like they landed on the moon together. They experienced something so incredible in their careers together, that even when they couldn’t figure out the relationship part well enough … they didn’t disappear. When he passed, it was only two years, and then she left, and I can’t help but think somebody like my father was there to bring her over.”
