Patti, now 71, recently shared her battle with blood cancer in the documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on September 8. In the film, she revealed her early-stage multiple myeloma diagnosis from 2018. Her journey has been both a challenge and a testament to her resilience.

“This condition affects my immune system, so I have to be cautious about where I go and what I choose to do,” she explained. “Every once in a while, I manage to join Bruce for a show or two and sing a few songs on stage. It’s been a real treat. This is my new normal, and I’m perfectly okay with it.”

Patti, who has been a beloved member of the E Street Band since 1984, has continued to make occasional appearances during their latest tour, which is set to conclude in the summer of 2025. Despite her condition, she remains an integral part of the band, bringing her unique energy to the stage whenever she can.

“I’ve been performing with this incredible band for 40 years. Those first performances felt amazing to be back on stage,” Patti said about her recent tour experience. “But touring has become a challenge for me now, and that’s okay. It’s all about adjusting and finding a new rhythm.”
