Valerie Bertinelli Shares Her Vulnerability with Her Fans
Valerie Bertinelli, the beloved actress, has touched the hearts of her fans by sharing a deeply personal moment. In a recent video, she revealed the effects of an anxiety attack, showing her trembling hand as a testament to the power of such emotions. Fans have been praising her for her courage and transparency, making her feel less alone in her experience.
Posting on November 17, Valerie explained, “I’ve sat on this post for a day because it’s incredibly vulnerable and that’s always scary to share.” She continued, “But I’m posting because we’re all out here doing our best, having a human experience, and none of us want to feel like we’re alone in that.” Her words resonated deeply with many who have faced similar struggles.
A Day of Emotional Turmoil
At 64, Valerie admitted that her heart was “beating a little rapidly” as she typed her caption for the post. She opened up about the details of her anxiety attack, explaining, “I had a really bad anxiety attack today. I haven’t had one like this in a very, very long time.”

She went on to describe the intensity of the episode, saying, “A few hours ago, I was weeping uncontrollably, and my heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest. I couldn’t stop shaking. It was overwhelming, and I knew I had to share it because I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one out here who has experienced this.”
Valerie expressed gratitude that these attacks have become much less frequent, though this one caught her off guard. “I know I’m taking a chance, but I want to share it because I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one out here who has experienced this,” she said, offering solace to others who might be silently suffering.
The Aftermath of an Anxiety Attack
Valerie noted that her hand shaking was the “after effect” of the attack. During such episodes, she explained, her body and mind feel like they’re under attack. “I almost disassociate and am focused solely on calming down and finding any road to a more relaxed and peaceful body,” she wrote. She acknowledged the overwhelming nature of these experiences, saying, “Because I know it’s just my brain overthinking and catastrophizing, but my body goes into overdrive and I have no control over it.”
Hours later, as she worked to meditate and employ techniques like EMDR to calm herself, she reflected on the lingering effects. “Part of me is fascinated by what the human body is capable of when our feelings can get in the way or override any reasonable thought,” she shared. “Another part of me is just curious about how all of this happens, you know, the weird neuropathies in our brain and how they affect our bodies, what feelings (which are just information, by the way) are and why they’re so powerful that they make our body go into overdrive.”

She reached out to her followers, asking if they’ve ever experienced an extreme anxiety attack and seeking any helpful tips they might have for calming down. Her followers responded with overwhelming support, filling the comments section with encouragement and advice.

The next day, Valerie revealed she was on the move. Posting on November 18, she shared, “I’m on the plane, all tucked in. Heading to New York for THREE more episodes of @thedrewbarrymoreshow.” Her enthusiasm was evident as she added, “I couldn’t love this job more! Is there anything you would like to have Drew and I talk about and dig into? I’m curious. What’s on your mind? What would you like more information on?”
