When Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan made the bold decision to step back from their royal duties and aim for greater financial independence, it sent shockwaves through Buckingham Palace and beyond. Everyone seemed to have an opinion on this major move, and recently, entertainment legend Marie Osmond shared her take on the situation during a lively discussion on the January 9 episode of The Talk.

A New Generation, A New Perspective

Marie, now in her early 60s, offered a thoughtful analysis of the couple's decision, reflecting on how this generation operates differently from the past. "To me, it feels like we're in a new era," she said. "This generation is incredibly impatient—they know what they want, and they want it now." Marie went on to explain that both Harry and Meghan come from strong, independent backgrounds but have found themselves in a situation where they need to chart their own path. "Meghan has always been a very strong woman," Marie noted. "And Harry, while he's never been one to break the mold, seems to have realized that being king isn't in his future. What I see is a couple who just wants to live their lives on their own terms and protect each other along the way."

Respect and Communication

Marie's cohost Sharon Osbourne chimed in with her own perspective, emphasizing the importance of respect within the royal family. "It would have been the respectful thing to talk to the Queen before making such a huge decision," Sharon, also in her 60s, explained. "Imagine going to your family and saying, 'Let’s work this out together so we can all be happy.' If Harry had gone to his father, Prince Charles, and said, 'I want to be an ambassador in Canada,' I think it might have worked out better for everyone involved."

    Why Canada?

As Closer Weekly previously reported, Harry and Meghan decided that stepping back from their royal duties in London was the best choice for them. Their primary goal was to give their young son, Archie, a more "normal" upbringing in Canada. "They’ve been thinking about this for a while," a source close to the couple revealed. "They absolutely loved their time in Vancouver over the holidays. Archie is their top priority, and they want to provide him with the best life possible."
