Guess what? Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ 22-year-old son, Michael Consuelos, has officially joined the ranks of college graduates. And Kelly, who's still as vibrant as ever at 49, couldn’t be prouder. She celebrated this monumental achievement by sharing a delightful moment on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, May 20, showing off her "proud mom" tassel while hugging her son.
With a beaming smile, Kelly captioned the post, “This kid! #NYU #2020.” But here's the catch—due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Michael couldn’t experience the traditional graduation ceremony with his classmates. Schools have been closed, and many milestones have had to adapt to virtual celebrations. Still, this didn’t dampen the joy of the moment for the Ripa-Consuelos family.

Even though the ceremony wasn’t what they envisioned, Kelly made sure to honor the occasion with a heartfelt throwback post from 2016. In it, she shared a picture of Michael in his graduation gown, flanked by his dad, Mark, and his 17-year-old brother, Joaquin. She wrote, “#Fbf 2016. Four years have flown by in the blink of an eye, and today you take your final exam in college.” She concluded her message with a string of purple heart emojis and added, “Congratulations, Michael! You’re a virtual graduate. Literally! #classof2020 #NYU.”

Michael's Journey Beyond Graduation
But the celebration doesn’t stop there. Before he officially graduated, Kelly pulled some strings and secured Michael a job on her show, Live With Kelly and Ryan. She announced this fantastic news during an episode on May 6. “If I’m being completely honest, Michael has been producing my end of this show,” Kelly revealed to her cohost, Ryan Seacrest. “He’s been working hard while finishing up his degree at New York University.”
Now, while some might jump at the chance to work alongside Ryan and Kelly, Michael doesn’t seem too thrilled about the opportunity. Kelly joked, “I told him, ‘Look at you, you’ve got a job before you even graduate. That’s got to make you feel good.’ And he just shrugged and said, ‘Uh, yeah.’ Classic Michael.”
Michael's Quarantine Experience
And if that wasn’t enough, Kelly playfully disclosed how Michael feels about his current work setup. “Breaking news: Michael Consuelos wanted me to tell you, Ryan,” she laughed, “that he is definitely not enjoying his time in quarantine.”
With a job secured, Kelly can now rest easy knowing her son won’t be struggling with “extreme poverty” in NYC. When Michael was living in Brooklyn, she often joked about him learning the hard way what it means to be an adult. But thanks to his parents, he managed to navigate those challenges with grace.
So there you have it, folks. Michael Consuelos is stepping into the world as a proud college graduate, ready to take on whatever comes next. Looks like he’s getting a crash course in real life, just like the rest of us!
