Fran Drescher is nothing short of an icon. She’s an award-winning actress, an Emmy and Golden Globe nominee, a best-selling author, producer, director, and a respected activist. She’s also the president of the Screen Actors Guild. But amidst all her accomplishments, Fran Drescher has expressed one thing she feels she missed out on: motherhood.

From 'The Nanny' to Real Life

Although Fran Drescher is known for playing one of the most beloved caregivers on television as Fran Fine in The Nanny, she herself has never had children. In a candid interview with The Cut in 2020, Fran opened up about her feelings on motherhood. "I think I would have been a good mom," she shared. "And sometimes I think I kind of missed out on that." It's a deeply personal reflection from someone who’s spent her life caring for others through her work.

Facing Adversity: A Battle with Uterine Cancer

In 2000, Fran was diagnosed with uterine cancer, which required an immediate radical hysterectomy. This life-changing surgery meant she would never have biological children. But instead of letting this setback define her, Fran turned it into something positive. She channeled her experience into writing her second memoir, Cancer Schmancer, which went on to become a New York Times bestseller. This book wasn’t just about her journey; it was a wake-up call for others to prioritize their health.

Advocacy and Activism: Cancer Schmancer Movement

When asked about her motivation for writing Cancer Schmancer, Fran told Larry King in 2002, "It took me two years to get diagnosed with this cancer. I had to go to eight different doctors." She expressed her frustration with the medical system and her desire to help others avoid similar experiences. "Because I thought don’t let what happened to me happen to you. Because I felt like I’m a celebrity, I got cancer, it wasn’t handled right by the medical community, I lived to talk about it, and I should use my celebrity to wake people up," she explained.

In June 2007, Fran launched the Cancer Schmancer Movement, a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that women’s cancers are diagnosed in the most curable stage, Stage 1. Her passion for advocacy and helping others is a testament to her character and resilience.

    Family Ties: A Devoted Daughter

Despite not having children, Fran remains deeply connected to her family. "I am also very proud that I consider my parents my dearest friends," Fran exclusively told Closer in January. She cherishes her daily FaceTime sessions with them, expressing her devotion as a daughter. "I’m a very devoted daughter, and I cherish them," she shared.

Love and Relationships: A Journey of Self-Discovery

Fran has been married twice. Her first marriage was to Peter Marc Jacobson, her high school sweetheart and co-creator of The Nanny. They were together from 1978 to 1999. After their divorce, Peter came out as gay, and Fran became an LGBT rights activist. In 2021, she took her activism a step further by becoming an ordained minister with the Universal Life Church Monastery, allowing her to officiate LGBT wedding ceremonies.

From 2014 to 2016, Fran was married to tech entrepreneur Shiva Ayyadurai. Today, Fran is embracing her time alone, enjoying the peace and satisfaction of being in a relationship with herself. "I’m also not in a rush to get into another relationship because I’ve never been in such a satisfying relationship with myself as I am right now. I am using this opportunity to enjoy, without any pressure or stress, where I am in life," she told Closer. It's clear that Fran has found a deep sense of peace and contentment in her current phase of life.
