Let me tell you a story about a guy named Michael Voltaggio. You might know him from Season 6 of Top Chef, where he took home the $125,000 prize after an intense competition with his brother Bryan. But there’s so much more to this chef than just his culinary skills. Today, I want to dive into his personal life—his ex-wife Kerri Voltaggio-Trout, his two daughters, and his current relationship with actress Bria Vinaite. Stick around, because this is one fascinating tale.
Michael Voltaggio’s Ex-Wife, Kerri Voltaggio-Trout
Before we talk about where Michael is now, let’s rewind a bit. Michael's journey to fame didn’t start on Top Chef. He actually attended the Greenbrier Culinary Apprenticeship Program in West Virginia before landing a spot on the show in 2009. By the time he won the competition at age 30, he was already well on his way to becoming a household name in the culinary world. He opened restaurants, appeared on TV shows like Marry Me and Young & Hungry, and even starred in Battle of the Brothers.
But long before all that, Michael tied the knot with Kerri back in 2001 in Pent Springs, West Virginia. They were a couple for nearly a decade, but things eventually took a turn. In 2010, the couple decided to live apart, and their divorce was finalized the following year. According to court documents, irreconcilable differences were cited as the reason for the split. It wasn’t an easy decision, but life moves forward, and so did Michael.

Michael Voltaggio’s Family: Two Beautiful Daughters
One of the most rewarding parts of Michael’s life is his role as a dad. He shares two daughters—Olivia and Sophia—with Kerri. Olivia, born in 1999, has already accomplished so much. She studied osteopathic medicine at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine and now lives in Ivins, Utah. In July 2022, Michael couldn’t help but brag about his daughter on Instagram after she reached a major milestone.
“I remember getting my first chef coat and how proud I felt to start my professional journey,” he wrote. “I’m even prouder to witness the white coat ceremony for my daughter as she gets one step closer in her career in medicine. As parents, we hope for success and happiness for our children. To have them reach a higher level than you is something a parent dreams of.”
Then there’s Sophia, born in 2004, who graduated high school in June 2022. She announced on Facebook that she would be attending Virginia Tech. While Michael doesn’t share many photos of his daughters on social media, it’s clear from the ones he does post that he cherishes every moment with them. Being a dad means everything to him.
Michael’s Love Life After Divorce
After his split from Kerri, Michael eventually found love again. For a while, he was dating designer Sami Miro. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two spent their time together cooking up new recipes and learning how to navigate life in lockdown.
“The dynamic has definitely been a lot different,” Michael told Us Weekly in May 2020. “Sami’s definitely learning how to do dishes pretty well. The meals themselves are interesting. That’s probably the best word to describe it.”
But by early 2021, Sami and Michael seemed to drift apart. Their Instagram posts together stopped, and soon enough, Michael was spotted with someone new—actress Bria Vinaite. Bria, best known for her role in the 2017 film The Florida Project, quickly became a big part of Michael’s life. They announced their engagement in June 2022, and since then, they’ve been sharing sweet moments on social media.

In September 2022, Michael and Bria were teammates on an episode of Guy’s Ultimate Game Night. The next day, Bria celebrated Michael’s birthday with a heartfelt message on Instagram. “Happiest birthday to my future husband @mvoltaggio,” she wrote. “You make the world a better place. Today and every day you are loved and celebrated!”
